Mr. Toad!

Earlier in the summer a toad was living in between the front door and the storm door. We rarely use that door, so it was a pretty safe place.

But then he almost got stepped on and woke up too early. Since then he is living somewhere else. I suspect under the cat house.

This is where he sits every night unless cats scare him off.

He will in fact switch dishes if the cats bother him… there are 2 other water dishes on the porch. That’s gotta be a shock to a cat going to get a drink, lol! Ack, a toad is using my water as a swimmy pool!

An update on the baby birds: they are gone. I suspect Blue Jays raided the nest. Very sad, but it wasn’t a great place for a nest anyhow.

Drove over to Eureka Springs with my daughter this afternoon. Had a nice visit with Sara of Paper Odyssey, and of course bought a few things. I had a gift silk scarf for her, but then wanted to show her some others, and she ended up buying a big purple one from me… my favorite “galaxy” silk.

Tomorrow my daughter Sarah and I will dye a bunch more silk scarves. They are one of my best sellers at the farmers market.

Oh, and our neighbor gifted me with 2 grocery bags full of cukes. Nice slicer cukes. Looks like I’m gonna be making pickles. He also told me to PLEASE come over and pick veggies. He’s got a great big garden, but it’s just him, and there are enough veggies there to feed a small town of people. I told him he went a bit insane… but heck, it looks like I’m going to get all the veggies I can eat… and I’ll take some to the farmers market to sell. Will give Brent the money. I’ll have to get out there in the morning, tho… heat of the day is no time to be trying to pick veggies!

Well, this is all for tonight…. :)

Random mind wandering

My birthday is coming up. I’ll be 7×7. I’ve recently developed seasonal allergies, which I don’t believe in… and here I am with allergies. But someone pointed out that our bodies change over time. Me not believing in it is not helping, darn it. But Zyrtek helps a lot if I bother to take it. At least I’ve got a somewhat mild reaction… I don’t really need to take any meds, just remember to blow my nose a bit more often. Main problem is that I get stuffed up more at night, night is when I start sneezing. When I go to sleep I wake up not being able to breathe well. :(

Just irks me to heck that I have an allergy to something in the air. Pfft! I know other people suffer from season allergies… I just never have before, that what irritates me.

Anyhow, I was thinking about birthdays today and remembering a couple of mine.

When I was 10, what I wanted most of all was a dog. I wanted a cocker spaniel in particular. We’d had dogs when I was younger than 10, but the only one I remember was Cocoa the lab and Cocoa got run over. I desperately wanted a dog when I was 10.

My birthday rolled around, and my Mom got me a puppy. It wasn’t a cocker spaniel. It was a Peke mix. I didn’t care, I had a puppy. I loved that dog so much. We named her Muffet. She was a beautiful red Peke and something else mix, and Mom paid $10 for her, which was a lot of money for a mixed breed at the time.

Muffet lived for about 9 years, and when she died I was grown up and moved out and no one bothered to tell me. I was very upset. I went home to see my dad, sisters.. but mainly to see my dog that I couldn’t take because of living in an apartment. Get there… Oh, she died. Sorry.

Sadie reminds me of Muffet. Except that Sadie has been spayed now. Muffet had puppies every year, and every year I stayed up with her if I could, while she had them. I watched a LOT of puppies be born. I’d stay up with Muffet all night if she was in labor, even if I had to go to school the next day. When Sadie went into labor, I stayed up with her, too… did the same thing I’d done as a kid. Put my sleeping bag right there next to the birthing bed and slept if she’d let me.

One year Muffet had her puppies IN my sleeping bag after I’d had to get up and go to school. Ugh!

I don’t remember a lot of my birthdays, either as an adult or as a child. Some I do remember, like getting Muffet. Another birthday when I was even younger I remember because I’d stepped on a bee and couldn’t get my shoe on my foot. We all dressed up in fancy clothes for birthdays back then, and I had shiney black mary janes… but couldn’t get my foot into mine because it was swollen about twice the size it should have been. My memory of that birthday is dangling my pretty shoe off my toe sitting at the table to blow the candles out on my cake.

Birthdays are special, somewhat. I don’t know why I can’t remember more of my childhood birthdays. I remember the bee, and the pool, and Muffet.

As an adult… well, the only birthday that sticks out is the one where EVERYONE got me a cake. I am not even sure what age I was that year. 28 or 29 maybe. And I had like =five= birthday cakes. I don’t like cake very much. I had more cake than I had friends to help eat it. Oh gosh, I’ve gotta email my Mom… don’t make me a cake!

Just in case anyone actually reads here, and got this far… will you do me a favor and tell me how many people you know with the same birthday as you. I know at least 7 people with the same birthday as me.

I went and renewed my drivers license today, too… and I wore make up and a pretty shirt… and have a decent photo. I planned my license renewal instead of just saying OH, I gotta do that. Yay!

hugs,
Vyx
