OK first of all, MOST of those things about sex and cats are pure bullshit. Ask any vet.
EXCEPT true calico. Not what MOST people call calico, but a pure, solid white cat with orange and black patches. Most people will call any old cat with mixed colors a calico. Not true. But a true calico is genetically programmed to be female but males do show up.
Tortoiseshell is misused too. The kittens I saw in your pictures are torties.
This lady is very informative: http://www.squidoo.com/tortoiseshellcats
Don't know what to tell you about black kittens. I love 'em. Have two. I would emphasize cuteness not ebil if you want them to go to good homes. Maybe claim that the mother is a good mouser. Good luck. Ten kittens. GAWD!

I like having barn cats, although they are really front porch cats now since the only barn is a ways from the house. I do NOT want inside cats, I can't deal with litter box duty. Perfect cat would use the toilet and flush, too. This many cats? Not gonna happen.

Don't mind cleaning up after dogs... it's my fault if they can't get outside as often as they need to. The cleaning up is a lot more pleasant than the litter box duty is.

Ron is amazed that I can pick Ducati Frank out from the 4 black kittens. Pillar is easy, too, as she has lots of random white hairs. To Ron, all 4 black kittens look exactly alike, hah! I am having a bit of trouble with the other two, though.... Maybe they will be interchangeable names. Whichever one is in my lap is Tonic... and the other is Pult.

Ha! I totally agree about cat names. One of my favorite cats ever was a girl named Clarence. She is featured on the cover of my second novel, and as a character, in fact.

When I have my own house, I'm pretty sure I will turn in to one of those crazy cat ladies.

Somehow didn't see this until tonight Wednes! Jams are not hard to make at all. They recommend now that you boiling water bath everything, but as much sugar as jam has, I don't think it needs it. So, all you need is a canning funnel, a good spoon to stir, jars, and a pot to cook fruit and sugar and pectin in. Oh, and something to dip the jam out into the jars with the canning funnel in place. It's not hard, really. You probably have everything but the canning funnel and the jars.

Pectin packages have recipes... tell you how much fruit you need, how much sugar and how to cook it all up. I prefer liquid pectin, but powdered also works well. If you have a dishwasher, you wash the jars in that and they are sterilized just fine. (but really, boiling sugar/fruit is SUPER hot, will sterilize anything it comes in contact with. Will also burn you if you splash it.)

You can do it... get some fruit at a farmers market and try a small batch of something. A normal batch from a recipe with sugar only makes a few jars worth.

hugs,

When they fall off easily.... like nature intends. I have tried both burying them very shallowly and just leaving them on top of some potting soil in a pot... OUT of the sun. They will sprout when the time is right, and at first they look like corn growing. I think burying them but shallowly probably works best. Well drained soil.

The first time I saw those bulblets I thought they were some kind of plant TICK, lol! They get about the size of a garbanzo bean or larger when they are "ripe".

OH Vyx. Silly me. I didn't know what those things on the stem were. When do I remove them. How do I plant them. I just bought my first set and would love more Tiger Lilies!

That's kinda awesome. I wish I could get set up to make jams and stuff for the holidays. I usually just send cookies and cakes, sometimes I make granola. Your kids are pretty cute!

Wednes, thank you! I like how the bottom half came out.... dyeing something that long is sort of a problem. I didn't feel so bad once I saw the professional flags done like mine... where the top is not quite right.

Which reminds me... email me a size, I'm pretty sure I can fix you up with a top or something that I've dyed. I may not mail it right away, going through one of my can't rem to mail stuff things... but I'll try to rem.

We have that briar and half a dozen more kinds. Roundup doesn't work on em... my mom suggested I spray them first with dishwasher detergent, let it dry, and then try the roundup. I sprayed last year the ones coming up in paths and I have dead spots with briars. Argh!
