Night Dog
Ron and I were out having a bonfire tonight… weather was nice, not too windy… and it’s more fun than sitting in watching tv.
But Rita hates it when we are out in the night. I won’t let her roam around… she’s mostly black and I can’t see her.
So, tonight. I invented something. I have glow sticks.. you know those things they sell as safety lights for halloween and other things. I bought a bunch on clearance a few years ago.
Had the bright idea (LOL) of attaching one to her harness. So, I came in and tied one to her harness with some waxed string. Of course the one I opened had been activated inside the package at some point in the past… Okay, cut that one off, get another one out. I picked Blue and activated the second one before actually tieing it to Rita’s harness.
Rita wasn’t all that happy to have something attached to the top side of her harness, but I was plenty happy to watch her run around in all the shadows and I never lost track of her. I wondered if anyone driving by would notice this little blue light bobbing around in the yard… The way Rita runs it’s like a high speed armadillo. Rita doesn’t actually walk… her movement is always at least a trot.
With my camera not working quite right on rechargeable batteries I can’t take a photo of the glow harness, but I’ll leave it all attached until I get regular batteries back in my camera. I think it was a brilliant idea, not to mention a quick fix for a common problem I have. Of course better would be something permanent and/or long lasting… like a little glow in the dark vest or something. I’ll work on that… for a quick fix, the light stick idea worked wonderfully.

Should your neighbors mention a mysterious blue light bobbing around your back yard just look puzzled and mutter something about ghosts and that time of year.
Actually, they make a small LED flashlight that can be attached to collars that blink to let traffic and people know that there is a dog above that light. Check it out at PetSmart or Petco the next time you go.
But I agree with Sharon: mention ghosts and will=o=wisps if anyone asks about the blue lights in your yard or on the paths! LOL
I finally got some of those silicone frames for the rabies tag so that my guys can shake their heads all they want and no more clankity-clank!
